I have a background in woven textile design and fabric development. My work, though firmly based in weave, goes beyond the traditional textile approach as I am also exploring other techniques, be it new or long forgotten techniques.
Slowly my practice is shifting from applied to autonomous, but textile, craft and diversity in material and construction are still the common denominators in my work.
Tactility is very important for me. In my work I am going back and forth between a more rational, theoretical approach and a more unconscious reacting to the actual, tactile materials. Crafting is about head, hart and hand.
Besides being a maker I am a lecturer in weaving, material and technique research and material knowledge at the textile departments of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, the Netherlands.
